INCREDIBLE 2015 Vintage Super Tuscan

Vintage of the Decade now on Sale!

Villa Collazzi is one of the most impressive estates in all of Tuscany. This architectural landmark was originally designed by Michelangelo in 1560 for his friend, Agostino Dini. It offers commanding views of the surrounding Chianti Classico and Tuscan countryside. Today, I Collazzi is the property of the Marchi brothers, Carlo and Bona. During the last decade, the Marchi brothers invested heavily in the development of Collazzi’s farming business, renewing the vineyards, and restructuring the cellar, with the goal of producing excellent wines.

Their top wine, Libertà is made with grapes from the Collazzi estate.  The wine’s goal is to achieve a delicious balance between the Merlot’s soft tannins, Syrah’s richness in spices and the elegant fragrance of Sangiovese.  The wine owes its name to a donation that the City of Florence made to eight local families, among which were the former owners of Collazzi, who had valiantly fought for the city’s freedom.

Grown at high altitudes with a south west exposure, the Libertà vineyard is planted to 50% old vine Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 15% Syrah – all in clay soils, rich in limestone, with an abundantly rocky texture. These attributes come together to produce one of the most succulent, well structured, beautifully fruited, and silken wines of Tuscany. And my price simply adds to the allure!

James Suckling: Plenty of cherry and blackcurrant aromas following through to a full body with firm and silky tannins. A juicy and exotic-fruit aftertaste. Pure raspberries, too. Drink in 2020.
